contents My blog - cooking the books |
All about me! My name is Becky Thorn. I am a part time primary school teacher. I have a husband and two children. I cook as many meals as possible from scratch for my family so I am always on the receiving end of honest and vocal criticism when I get it wrong. In March 2007 I appeared on "Masterchef goes large" as a guest amateur restaurant critic. I won this chance by writing a short critique of a favourite meal. I have also designed a meal for the Heinz Weight Watchers range which was then made and sold nationally. On Friday 24th August 2007 I was a guest on BBC London 94.9 with Sean Rowley discussing the guilty pleasure that is school dinners. Whenever I get together with friends for a meal and several bottles of wine the conversation often turns nostalgic as we are all fortyish now! If the discussion turns to school days someone always mentions school meals. Whilst people sometimes had elements of a school meal that they disliked mostly the desire is to be able to recreate the meals they ate as children. Whether they want to eat the food themselves or cook for their families I am not sure. I know they buy ready meal versions but long to be able to cook these simple dishes for themselves. Top of the list of for us all were the school puddings. My children cannot believe you had to eat liver and bacon at school, and my husband can't believe I had seconds. I did because that got me front of the queue for puddings, somewhere you will still find me today. I am sure the others in the pudding queue would buy this book when it is published just for the Butterscotch tart.
