FISHER FIREWORKS IN VAIN

24 MAY 2014
OLD WHITGIFTIANS v EAST MOLESEY
SURREY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE
OW 126-6 (22 overs), EM 129-5 (19.4 overs)
EM won by 5 wickets (D/L method)
Visitors East Molesey won a frustrating, weather ravaged game at Croham Road by 5 wickets on Saturday. With the square recovering from the heavy overnight rains, a delayed start at 2pm had just begun when the rains returned after just one over of the reduced 40 over contest with OW 7-0 having been inserted by Molesey skipper Sam Burge. An early tea was taken with play eventually resuming at 4.55pm and the game now a 22 overs contest. The home innings did not ignite until the arrival at the crease of captain Luke Fisher who hit 5 sixes and 2 fours from just 18 balls in a rumbustious 44 not out to hoist his side to 126.
Early wickets were essential for OW and the dangerous Simon Barrett fell for a duck to the 4th ball of the innings bowled by Suliman Younas courtesy of a fine slip catch from Murti Hussain. Jason Moore and Jonty Hadfield then added 50 in less than 5 overs before Moore fell to Fisher for 28. Hadfield (46 not out), supported by Burge (17), George Cairns (14) and Paul Lawford (10) saw Molesey home with 14 balls to spare although Fisher with 2-32 and a tidy spell of leg spin from 17 year old Nikhil Patel (3 overs for just 8 runs) held up the victory charge.
Both the 2’s and 3’s games were washed out without a ball bowled.
