FISHER AND RAJA STAR IN VICTORY OVER DULWICH

RYMAN SURREY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE 12 MAY 2012
OLD WHITGIFTIANS v DULWICH
DULWICH 167 all out (41.4 overs) OW 171-3 (34.3 overs)
OW WON BY 7 WICKETS

Cricket finally got underway at Croham Road after 3 weekends of washouts as OW ran out convincing winners by 7 wickets against newly promoted Dulwich.
Ali Raja won an important toss and after 15 overs his seam attack had reduced Dulwich to 40-5 with Majid Khalil, Luke Fisher and Ali Jaffery all successful. Former Dulwich skipper Richard Farrow was playing watchfully and proved harder to shift but was deceived by Murti Hussain to fall lbw for 37 with the visitors deep in trouble at 111-8. At this point Chris Lester played an aggressive knock of 55 from just 37 balls before being well taken by Mo Raza on the boundary off Hussain as Dulwich were bowled out for 167. Fisher with 4-26 and Khalil 3-22 were the most successful OW bowlers.
OW sent out the young opening partnership of Jono Morey and Matt Stiddard (combined age of just 34) and both played with a calm assurance in compiling an opening stand of 44 from 12 overs before Morey was taken caught and bowled by Lester for 10. Stiddard fell lbw to Dulwich’s South African all rounder James Price for 23 a few overs later at 54-2 but Ahmad Raja and Hussain then dominated the bowling in adding 90 for the 3rd wicket in 13 overs before Hussain was well taken by Mark Kelly off Savill to go for a run a ball 38. OW skipper Ali Raja then joined his brother at the crease and these two knocked the runs off without further loss, Ahmad making a fluent 56 not out to seal a comfortable win with 15 overs to spare.
