Chairman’s Letter 2013

Dear Member

Firstly, an update about the planned ground improvements. Much work has been going on behind the scenes over the winter with work to secure funding for an upgrade to the nets and the covers on the main square. Grant funding has been secured with work to comprehensively upgrade the nets taking place on 24/25 April and new roll on, roll off covers for the main square to be delivered and installed before the start of the league season.

With season nearly upon us, we have the following pre-season friendlies:

Saturday 27 April: 1st XI vs Sutton (Home, 1pm start), 2nd XI vs Sutton (Away, 1pm start).

Sunday 28 April Sunday X1 vs Wind in the Willows (home) 2pm start

Saturday 4 May: 1st XI vs Spencer (Home, 1pm start), 2nd XI vs Spencer (Away, 1pm start), 3rd X1 vs O Wimbledonians (Home, 1pm start)

Sunday 5 May: Sunday XI vs Norwood Exiles (Home, 2pm start)

Members are asked to cry on to Fred Woodrow (Team Secretary, teamsec@owcc.org)

Also, we will be launching a new kit and an online shop to make purchasing the kit much easier. Watch this space!

The new overseas Brendan Taylor has arrived in the UK from Perth, Western Australia on the 31st March.  It was freezing outside but Brendan manned up and came through the airport in shorts! Brendan is a left arm seam bowler/bat and we all look forward to seeing him at the Club soon. Brendan is one of several new members of the first team.

Finally, some dates for the diary.

Thursday 9 May– The traditional pre-season gathering will take place at 7:30pm in the clubhouse. All players and members are welcome to come along. There will be a buffet so please come and support this event.

Sunday 28 July- The club will be hosting the annual Surrey Championship Twenty20 finals day. This should be a fantastic day of cricket, so please keep the date. Hopefully the club will make the day, which kicks of at 10:30am and consists of both semi-finals and the final.

I wish all our players and members a happy and enjoyable season.

Best wishes

Stuart
